Aquitaine - 8 special beaches

Great Beach Biarritz
At Grand Plage in Biarritz, families find their paradise: as the name suggests, it is the largest beach in the famous Atlantic city. The youngest vacationers make new friends at the beach club, while parents relax to their heart's content or take a swim in the clear water. During the warm season from May to October, the Grand Plage in Biarritz is supervised. The beach stretches from the Hotel du Palais to Bellevue. You will find shops, restaurants, and cafés. There is also a surf school on site with a wide range of courses. A walk to the lighthouse is also worthwhile.

Bourdaines Beach
For many travelers, Plage des Bourdaines is considered the most beautiful beach around the popular resort town of Seignosse. It not only delights with fine sand and clear water but also promises peace and relaxation in the untouched landscape, allowing you to spend relaxing hours in the French sun. The constant winds make Plage des Bourdaines a true paradise for kite and windsurfers as well as wave riders. Accordingly, you will find several surf schools on-site where you can learn these water sports. Due to the ideal conditions, professional competitions are also regularly held here, where you can admire the best surfers in the world.

Moulleau Beach
The picturesque beach consists of the finest, completely white sand. Together with the deep blue sea, it creates an impressive play of colors and is therefore a sought-after travel destination all year round. During the transitional seasons, extended walks along the coast are recommended. Bike tours around Arcachon are also highly recommended. From June to September, vacationers can expect perfect climatic conditions for swimming. Sunbathe on the quiet Plage du Moulleau, relax under sun umbrellas, or cool off by swimming. From there, you can also enjoy a panoramic view of the Pilat Dune and the sandbank.

Cork Oaks Beach
The Plage des Chênes Lièges is located at the popular bathing lake in the center of the western French seaside resort of Hossegor, not far from the Atlantic coast. In contrast to the wild sea with its waves very popular among surfers, the lake of Hossegor offers a calm bathing spot, which is particularly suitable for families. The approximately 800-meter-long fine sandy beach is lined with pine trees, which also provide some shaded areas. The water of the small lake is shallow and very calm, and there is a playground for children. The infrastructure is excellent, especially since the lake is located in the center of the popular seaside resort.

South Beach Mimizan
The kilometer-long dream beach promises the best conditions for relaxing days in the French sun during the warm summer months. Let your soul unwind with temperatures reaching up to 30°C or cool off by swimming in the open sea. Even in the peak season, you can find a quiet spot here. Plage Sud Mimizan is considered a true paradise by water sports enthusiasts. Surfing, as well as wind and kite surfing, are particularly popular. In the southern part of the beach, there is a nudist area, and in the northern part, you will find some sports fields. For excursions, the city of Bordeaux, about 100 km away, is recommended.

Beach of the Basque Coast
The fine sandy dream beach appears like something out of a picture book. In the north, the imposing Villa Belza offers a spectacular photo opportunity, and in the south, the coast is framed by striking rocks. In the designated areas, vacationers can sunbathe and relax in the warm summer months and cool off while swimming. All year round, Plage de la Côte des Basques, which is one of the most beautiful beaches in France, offers excellent conditions for surfing. For beginners, the conditions at low tide are recommended, when the waves are small and ideal for learning. Professionals on the boards, on the other hand, look forward to the high tide.

Trousse-Chemise Beach
The beach Plage de Trousse-Chemise belongs to the town of Portes-en-Ré on the small western French island of Ile de Ré, which is connected to the mainland by a bridge. It is surrounded by a lovely forest and attracts visitors with beautiful white sand, clear sea, and a great seabed. In addition to excellent infrastructure and the dreamlike sea with particularly soft sandy ground, Plage de Trousse-Chemise offers many great leisure activities. These include kite and windsurfing or sailing. Beach and mudflat walks are also popular, for example to the idyllic sandbank Banc du Bûcheron, which invites visits at low tide.

Hendaye Beach
The Plage d'Hendaye is about 3 kilometers long. Where the well-known surfing world champion Pauline Ado once began her career, water sports enthusiasts from all over the world still gather today. Several surf schools on site offer courses for beginners and advanced learners as well as equipment for rent. You can also try the trendy sport of stand-up paddling. The ideal time to spend a beach holiday at Plage Hendaye is from June to September. The water temperature then reaches up to 23 degrees. You will find changing rooms, showers, and toilets right on the beach. A coastal path with stunning viewpoints runs along the beach. You can stop by in restaurants and cafés.
