Beach of Agay
In the hinterland of Agay rises the Esterel, a mountain massif with red rock formations that stretches from Cannes to Saint-Raphaël. This part of the French Mediterranean coast is known for its calanques, which are fjord-like coastal inlets. A little further southwest from the beach of Agay lies the Dramont, a hilly promontory. A few hundred meters off its coast, the tiny Île d’Or glistens in the sun. The island is privately owned but is still visited on boat tours.
Esterel Massif
The Massif de l’Esterel in southern France is a popular holiday area. The mountain range is known for its red rocks and the rugged coastline with the calanques, the deep inlets. The valley of the Argens separates the Esterel from the Maures Massif. You can reach the Esterel via the A8 motorway, which runs along the edge of the mountains. Popular excursion destinations are Mont Vinaigre and the reefs near Agay, which attract divers. The hike from Cap Roux to Rocher de Saint Barthélémy is beautiful.
Old Port of Saint-Raphaël
In the Old Port of Saint-Raphaël, you will find a blend of maritime romance and Mediterranean flair. In the harbor town on the Côte d'Azur, the scent of fresh fish mingles with a sea breeze. Fishing boats and yachts gently sway on the turquoise water. After a leisurely stroll along the harbor, enjoy local specialties in the restaurants. In the surrounding alleys, you will also find small shops, craft stores, and boutiques. A trip to Agay-Saint-Raphaël, 10 km away, is also worthwhile.
Basilica of Our Lady of Victory
The Basilica of Notre-Dame-de-la-Victoire in Saint-Raphael was built as part of the transformation of the fishing village of Saint-Raphael into a modern seaside resort and impresses with its Byzantine-inspired architecture near the beach. Its facade also immediately catches the eye. The striking red sandstone of the facade comes from the Estérel Mountains. Above the facade and the neoclassical portal rises the imposing dome at a height of 35 meters. The two side towers of the Basilica of Notre-Dame are adorned with gilded Madonna figures.
Veillat Beach
Only 24 km from the film city of Cannes, Plage du Veillat is well-suited for a family beach outing. The wide sandy beach slopes gently into the sea, making it ideal for small children to splash around. From Plage du Veillat, you have a wonderful view of the small island Île d’Or, with a tower rising in its center. Towards Cannes, the beach becomes rockier. Restaurants and cafes line the coastal section and invite you to linger.
Promenade of Saint-Raphaël
Saint-Raphaël and the Promenade des Bains embody the art of living in southern France like hardly any other coastal section. Not only exciting beach life with everything that goes with it, but also historical cultural treasures await you in this splendid piece of paradise. The Promenade des Bains includes several beach baths. While leisurely strolling, you will not only find your favorite beach section but also noteworthy relics from the Middle Ages. In the picturesque old town, you wander over cobblestones to the Romanesque church of San Rafeu.
