During the summer months, Pineta Marradi is a popular recreational area for tourists and locals to find some relief from the heat of Livorno. Archaeological Park of San Silvestro
The Archaeomineral Park of San Silvestro near San Vincenzo covers an area of 450 hectares, which was once an important mining center. Here you can discover the remains of old mines and mining settlements dating back to the 19th century. The park provides fascinating insights into the hard work of the miners and the techniques they used to extract ores. A special experience for both young and old is the descent into the dark depths of the underground tunnels.

The Forte die Bibbiona – historical relic in a modern seaside resort
In 1785, Fort Bibbona was built as a defensive structure on the Etruscan Riviera. The facade facing the Mediterranean side is still made of massive bricks today. Around the fortress, the Italian seaside resort Marina di Bibbona developed. Part of the historical complex is open to visitors in the summer with cultural events and exhibitions.
The Church of San Lorenzo – Culture on the Etruscan Riviera
Through a round arch built into a stone wall, you reach the Church of San Lorenzo, located a few kilometers southeast of the Italian seaside resort Marina di Bibbona. Impressive are the frescoes by the artist Alberto Zardo from the 20th century. The bell tower was rebuilt around 1930 from the ruins of Donoratico Castle in a neo-medieval style.
Macchia della Magon Nature Reserve
Like a green sea, the nature reserve Macchia della Magon spreads out in the hinterland of Marina di Bibbona. Through the lush vegetation of holm oaks, pines, and strawberry trees, there are 50 kilometers of cycling and hiking trails. In the forests of the former Italian timber reserve east of the Etruscan Riviera, foxes, mouflons, and porcupines also live.

Day 1
On the first day, you start from Marina di Bibbona on an excursion to Bibbona, located just over 6 km inland. In the picturesque old town below the castle, you stroll through shady alleys lined with historic houses from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. Even parts of the medieval city fortifications, such as the Torre di Bibbona, are still preserved. Among Bibbona's churches, Santa Maria della Pietà stands out with its distinctive dome. The floor plan of the 15th-century church follows the shape of a Greek cross. Also worth seeing is the Romanesque church of Sant’Ilario, dating from the 13th century. You spend the afternoon at one of the beautiful beaches of Marina di Bibbona. At the open-air pools Marinetta Beach and Altaduna or the Oasi di Bolgheri, you relax on the pebble-strewn sandy beach under umbrellas. Bars, restaurants, and showers are part of the amenities. In the evening, you experience beautiful sunsets from the beach promenade.
Day 2
Spend this day in the Mediterranean nature around your holiday destination. Fishing enthusiasts cast their rods at Laghi Le Palme Marina di Bibbona. For a walk in the greenery, explore the Park Fossi della Madonna. It runs directly along the coast, so you always have the sea in view. After lunch, the Parco Gallorose is a family-friendly destination. In the shade of sprawling trees, discover animals from around the world. A highlight for the little ones is the petting farm. By the way, the family dog is allowed to accompany you. As an alternative program, set off on an extended hike to the Riserva naturale Bibbona, about 10 km away. Routes of varying difficulty levels crisscross the forested hilly landscape. A bit further away is the Riserva Naturale di Caselli with the Cascatelle dello Sterza. The water cascading over the rocks collects in a pool.
Day 3
To learn more about Etruscan culture, head to Volterra, located about 30 km inland. The Etruscan city gate Porta Diana dates back to the 4th century BC. Unfortunately, many of the impressive necropolises are now destroyed – you can admire the finds from the tombs such as urns, jewelry, and statues in the Museo Etrusco Guarnacci. Founded in 1761, it is one of Europe's oldest public museums. Volterra also has a pinacotheca, an art museum, and the Ecomuseo dell’Alabastro. You can visit the remains of the Etruscan acropolis in the Parco Archeologico "Enrico Fiumi," where children can play on the playground. Discover the Roman remains of the theater and the baths in the north of Volterra. Then stroll through the old town and stop at the Piazza dei Priori for a break in one of the street cafes. The square is dominated by the Palazzo dei Priori from the 13th century.
