Mazury - The most beautiful cities
Giżycko
Discover a natural paradise around Giżycko. The town is known as a center for water sports. Canoe trips, pedal boating, and sailing are very popular. Worth seeing is the swing bridge over the Łuczański Canal, which is operated by hand and has existed since the 19th century. Climb the water tower and view your holiday destination from a bird's eye perspective. If you climb the 129 steps, you can refresh yourself in a café. A cultural highlight is the Boyen Fortress, an impressive brick building. A walk on the ramparts gives an impression of the dimensions of the facility.
Elbląg
Boats that are suddenly placed on rails are the trademark you encounter in Elbląg. At the river port, an exciting journey begins with excursion steamers over the Elbląg Canal. The height differences are overcome with the help of cable cars and rail cars. You travel over the nature reserve of Lake Druzno. Apart from trips inland, tours to the nearby Vistula Lagoon on the Baltic Sea are worthwhile. Away from the seaport, there are picturesque beaches for relaxation. In the center, you can view the architecture influenced by Prussia and the Teutonic Order in the form of townhouses and St. Nicholas Cathedral.
Mikołajki
You can embark on a tour of the Masurian lake district with a rowing boat through the various channels of the region around Mikołajki. On Lake Śniardwy, fishing trips and sailing tours are also possible. Historically, the brick buildings in the old town are notable - including the Evangelical Church from the Schinkel school. Mikołajki is especially known for the lakes surrounding the community. In addition to the vast Lake Śniardwy, bodies of water like Łuknajno, Mokre, and Bełdany invite you for an excursion. The Krutynia River is very popular for canoeing. South of Mikołajki, you can experience Masurian nature on the Popielno Peninsula.
Olsztyn
You can start your tour, for example, with a visit to Allenstein Castle, which is a historical center of the Teutonic Order. Here, in a baroque setting, is the Museum of Warmia and Masuria with extensive information on history. Other highlights include the Frauenburg Cathedral and the High Gate. The old town of Olsztyn is characterized by Gothic and Baroque buildings such as the Old Town Hall and the Jerusalem Chapel. Among the cobblestone streets, you will find traditional cafes and restaurants. In the Polish milk bars, you can try dishes like pierogi and bigos. Smaller lakes await you in the surrounding area.
Mrągowo
Those who rent a holiday apartment in Mrągowo mainly want to take trips on the Masurian Lake District during the warm season. For this, you can rent a boat or participate in a guided tour. Additionally, hiking, fishing, and cycling are popular activities in the Polish town. In the city center of Mrągowo, you can view some historical buildings such as the Bismarck Tower, the town hall from 1825, and the Trinity Church. Walks along the shore are also highly recommended. North of the community, Lake Juno and Lake Czarne invite you to excursions and exciting activities with the family.
Węgorzewo
Lake Mauer is one of the most famous bodies of water in Poland and is located at the gates of the municipality. Here you can indulge in extensive rowing tours and reach other lakes through the many canals of Masuria. In the center, you can view historical buildings like the town hall. A highlight is the medieval castle. Węgorzewo is excellent for an exciting adventure and active vacation in Poland. Located on the Masurian Lake District, the municipality is the perfect starting point for activities such as fishing, rowing, sailing, and hiking. Around the waters, cycling tours with bird watching can also be organized. The lakes are a paradise for numerous living creatures.
Lidzbark Warmiński
With its corner towers, the castle of the bishops is unmistakable. It clearly resembles a fortress. Today, the mighty complex houses a museum that provides information about medieval art. Not far from the castle, you will discover an outer bailey, which also dates back to the Middle Ages. The High Gate also tells of days gone by. The late Gothic St. Peter and Paul Church attracts all eyes. The high tower is visible from afar. Among the art treasures inside is a sculpture of St. Anne Samtrozecia. Many buildings in the center were destroyed during the Second World War. They have been partially reconstructed.
Sorkwity
The landmark of Sorkwity is the castle, which you can find on the northern shore of Lake Lampasch. Towers adorned with battlements give it a romantic flair. The mighty brick building is constructed in the Tudor-Castle-Gothic style. The English landscape garden also reminds one of British castles. A walk under the old oak trees is worthwhile. With the Protestant parish church, you discover another architectural jewel in Sorkwity. Quite unique is a sculpture above the altar depicting the Ascension of Christ. A baptismal angel floating on the ceiling is richly adorned with gold. A memorial stone commemorates Johann Goercke, a significant military doctor born in Sorkwity.
Mazury - Climate
The peak season for a holiday with a vacation home in the Masurian region ranges from about May to September. During this time, daytime temperatures average between 17 and 21 degrees. Additionally, there is plenty of daylight, and the conditions are ideal for water sports. You may have to expect some rain and should equip yourself accordingly. It is still pleasantly mild with around 11 degrees in April and October. The winter days from about November to March, on the other hand, can be cool. The continental climate results in temperatures below freezing, providing good conditions for cross-country skiing.
