Krk/Krk - Must-see attractions
Baška Beach
The approximately 1.8 km long main beach Vela Baska welcomes you in a central location. The gently sloping coastal section is popular with families with children. Rent umbrellas and loungers on site. There is also a pedal boat rental, bouncy castles, and numerous leisure activities. Naturist enthusiasts will find their paradise at the FKK beach Bunculuka, located about 1 km east of the town center. At the long pebble beach Zarok, dogs are even partially allowed. You can reach the wild and romantic beach Vela Luka by taxi boat.
Frankopan Castle
The Frankopan Castle is located in the main square of the island's capital, Krk. The castle is one of the most significant buildings on the island. In 1288, the Vinodol Code was signed here. The castle walls and three towers are well preserved. If you enter the complex from the old town center, you first reach the town hall. During a walk along the walls and ramparts, you gain insight into the history of the Frankopan noble family. Don't miss a tour of the castle's interior.
Excursion to Vrbnik
The winding alleys and passages give the old town of Vrbnik an extraordinary charm. Artists are inspired by the unique setting for their works. The bell tower of the remarkable Church of the Assumption of Mary rises above the old town. Visit the artistic stoneworks in the tower. Squeeze through the 40 cm wide and 4 m long Klancic, one of the narrowest streets in the world. In the surroundings of Vrbnik, the well-known wine Vrbnicka Zlahtina thrives, which you can enjoy in the cozy wine taverns of Vrbnik.
Biserujka Cave
The entrance to the Biserujka Cave is located in a small house amidst untouched nature. It consists of a cave channel with several halls, including the Cypress Hall. According to legend, a never-found smuggler's treasure is hidden in the cave. The Biserujka Cave impresses with its wealth of dripstone formations like stalactites and stalagmites and is home to a diverse cave fauna. Perhaps during the visit, you might discover one of the small underground crabs that live here at an air temperature of 15°C.
Franciscan Monastery of the Annunciation of Mary
You can reach the island in a few minutes by water taxi. The late Gothic Franciscan Church of the Annunciation attracts visitors with its impressive baroque interior. The cloister in Romanesque style was built in 1594. Today, widely popular concerts take place in the former large cistern. A visit to the island museum is entertaining with its Roman coins, folk costumes, and historical items from fishermen and farmers. You will be amazed by the large colorful shell collection. The monastery library holds around 30,000 volumes, including a Venetian atlas from the year 1511.
Soline Bay
The Bay of Soline offers almost everything a vacationer's heart desires throughout the year. Sunbathers, swimmers, and water sports enthusiasts will get their money's worth here. The water is crystal clear, the beaches gently sloping, and there are hardly any dangerous currents. Additionally, the Bay of Soline is home to some of Croatia's most beautiful sandy beaches, including Meline Beach, which is known for its black healing mud. The Bay of Soline is the ideal holiday destination, especially for families with children.
Krk/Krk - Climate
Mediterranean climate awaits you at the Kvarner Bay. This means mild temperatures year-round on one hand, and humid climate on the other. Showers can occur at any time. However, the sunny impression prevails from spring to autumn: Temperatures average 15 degrees Celsius as early as April. From June to September, you can expect temperatures of 21 degrees Celsius and above. From April to October, you can look forward to ten to twelve hours of sunshine per day. The best conditions for a beach holiday are from May onwards: The sea warms up to 22 to 28 degrees Celsius. The bathing season lasts until October.
